The naked mole-rat lives almost ten times longer than other rodents. It gets sick less often and has attracted the attention of researchers studying the biology of aging for many years.
One of the most important features of this animal turned out to be a high level of high molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HA). This discovery made HA one of the important objects of research in the biology of aging.
For us, this was the beginning of another question: if this molecule is so important for the body, why are we used to perceiving it only as a cosmetic ingredient?
After all, HA is naturally found in the skin, eyes, blood vessels, and other tissues. It participates in maintaining their structure and is able to bind and retain large volumes of water. However, with age, its level and properties gradually change.
